Show me your battle scars, bishes! Share!
Did you participate in the Harry Potter Civil Fandom Wars? Of course I did!
What were your tour dates? I joined during the OotP releases, when there were still spoiler tags on pictures and information on Sirius being dead. From what I understand (or what I saw) at that point, there was still just a lot of speculation and hope and many essays on why this side or that side was right.
What side were you on? No sides at first, just against ship bashing. Then, of course, that turned into being anti-canon thumper. It was safe out there for slashers- the same people that bash het ships won't mess with slashers; they just ignore them or grumble privately in big, safe groups. It was a sweet gig; you could get away with saying outrageous stuff.
Where was your battlefront? Livejournal, JournalFen, and then a soft tour on G.O.
Defensive, Offensive, or other? Hardcore defensive, mostly assists. Disarming offenses, thread jumping. Like an armed medic.
Any memorable stories? Yeah, one. Anti-HG was there.
Any lasting effects? Non-blatant written sarcasm is lost on me now and I read it as an attack.
Has the fandom war taught you anything?
Relentless kindness is disarming. Use it.
Selfishness projects. Defend a ship, and you'll be accused of sailing on it, even if you don't.
Slashers can say and do whatever the hell we want, wherever the hell we want, whenever the hell we want and get away with it. Canon thumpers are terrified of direct confrontation with us- See, I just did it. No consequences.
Do you think the war's really over? Sort of. Now people are going to war with the Twi-tards, which is nice, but no contest. I can't see our fandom ever truly banding together until a generation or two later, but
