Book One: Flowers in the Attic
Really enjoyed this one; it might be my favorite in the Dollanganger series. If you enjoy "slice of life" type stories about people just existing, you'll enjoy this one. Lorelei King is a great reader.
Book Two: Petals on the Wind
Honestly, I'd say this was my least favorite book in the series. It's amusing in that it manages to go at the Older Man/Younger Woman trope from every single angle- adoptive guardian, teacher/mentor, rescuer, upperclassman, step-dad (ish).
Book Three: If There be Thorns
Author: V.C Andrews
Reader(s): Lorelei King
This book is told through the eyes of Cathy's sons- the handsome, talented Jory and his disturbed younger brother Bart. Boy is there a lot of talk about corporal punishment of children. They don't ever go into any detail or even start to or anything, but it boarders on gratuitous sometimes as in "You could really take out three or four mentions and nothing would be lost."

A discussion on LJ about the books. This was way too much fun, even though we were ripping on the books hardcore. How, you might ask, can you enjoy this junk? This LJ comment explained it best:
Andrews wrote junk, but it was consciously messed-up junk. She didn't pretend that stalking was Twu Wuv or sociopaths were selfless.
That's all I ever ask. If you're going to write about stuff, just be honest. Admit when your characters have flaws and do messed up stuff. It's one of the hardest things to do, but be proud of their flaws in the "I made you complete" way, and let them be proud, even unapologetic of their flaws, too, in the "I'm doing it and I don't care/it looks fine from my perspective and I can't judge myself" way.

I took that from the library in the late 90's (before I was even a teenager) not knowing what I was getting into. It was probably the creepiest one I could have picked; I don't even wanna go into it. And yet I didn't finish it.

'S okay; I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have watched it if friends hadn't dragged me to it. But their albums are an excellent tribute/parody of the 60's. (This Is Spinal Tap is superior, of course)

Yeah, you have to order those dolls from a website. They're called BJD's- ball jointed Dolls. ... Oh my GOD, BJD could also stand for Billie Joe Dormir... Maybe for the 10th anniversary of TUDOC, I'll get G a Billie Joe Doll. By then, I'll either be all sorted out, or I'll have been gone for at least three years.
Uh, anyway, there are lots of BJD Makers- Dollfie, Iple House, Soon, Dream of Doll (that place will break your heart it's so pretty), Volks... Check out the Wiki article. I personally use Haruka and Setsuna's Specialty Shoppe for my dolls- that's where I got yours. I got my two sister dollies there and a Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus- they're girlfriends, you know. They came out really nicely.

Believe me, I do not and will not. I didn't even open the box when it got shipped to me; that's how much I could not deal with looking at her. It's an HSP thing, I think. Very difficult to explain.
What would you like to know about them? Which ones? Where should I start?
Maybe start with a link for any doll that looks a lot like someone you know. Here, this tag should do it.

Someone wrote about how they "hate when people whine about how they just bought a new Dollfie and now they can't eat for the month". I get the impression that most of the people are age range 19-30, which is even weirder. How do they get the money to do this stuff?!
But you,being a grown-up and having a job, I bet you could print a picture of one you love and paste it to a jar and put some of your grown-up monies into the jar every week or something. Iunno. Iuno how adults work. Surprised to learn my kinda-mostly-adult friends who are married sleep on colorful polka-dot sheets. Thought being grown up meant always having to have white sheets.
Since you want to get a handle on Ginny, how about when you see a doll that looks almost like her, you show me? Other than that, there's no specific anybody I had in mind. That's the fun of looking through the pictures (when you have time)- you're just scrolling and admiring, and then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere- "oh wow! She looks like/her smile looks like/his clothes look like X..."

Your bank account is safe. This is how I kep myself from being distressed about it- I figure "ok, so once you have the doll, what would you do with her?" Well... I'd just look at her. "Ok, so I can do that from the computer. And I have RPG for actually playing with her." That gets me by. S'why I won't ever want Sapphira- all I would do is look, and I have drawings for that.
Plus I could never put one of those dolls together.

Dolls are... addictive. Especially "found" ones; I have two Japanese "Geisha dolls" that were sold to tourists, that I found in the least likely of places. One was a rummage sale store in the back country, the other was in a "Goodwill" kind of store here. I can't play with them, sadly, but still...
