Discussing old fandoms with new people ( [livejournal.com profile] vincent_kinneas and doing it to my own house as not to clutter Pixie's journal.

Where were we? Number Shipping.

There's a 6x9? I had no idea! Who are they? I'd Google it, but I know better than to Google those numbers in that order.

I don't know what 6x9 is for a good reason. The "obscure circumstances" I mentioned were these- I was introduced to Gundam in 2000 in high school as a freshman. Bear in mind, this was just around when it first came to Toonami and at a time when the internet wasn't the 24-hour resource thing it is now (for some of us with strict parents). Broadband was a privileged (one which I didn't have). Thus, for a lot of people, fandom was very limited.

The girl I adored (le siiiigh) and her best friend (who attended another school) were big Wing!nuts and both drew themselves in as pilots 06 and 07. Pilot 06 laid her claim on Trowa (which naturally made me hate him. Back off my woman, bitch ) and 07 declared herself forever 01's girl. And both of them had a pretty big hate!hardon for Relena*.

Oh, and might I add, I did not have access to cable TV.

So everything I know about the fandom was isolated to the conversations between the three of us, and all the facts I got were from them and whatever I could pull from those Geocities/Angelfire pages, which were about as stable as Daffy Duck. I don't know if you remember those.

So... I don't know if I qualify as a fan, but I do know about as much as a person can know without having ever seen an episode! So... what, is Duo always hanging around Heero? And for that matter, what's the deal with 3x4? I know I shouldn't not-care-for Trowa anymore, but since I never had a reason to like him, it never went away.

Oh, and Dorothy. ... Yeh. Let's not go into her.

*Yeah, I know what it looks like, but OC's are kinda like... blood. Blood's blue until it touches oxygen, at which point it turns red. OCs are OCs, but once they touch the internet and the writer tries to inflict their canon on other people, then they turn into Mary Sues. And they didn't... inflict it on me so much as invited me in :) I didn't get a Gundam, since I couldn't watch the show, but I was quite a helpful secretary!

Personal Fandom~ No wars, just self indulgence!

Oh, I'm sorry! I definitely still like you and don't think you are evil ♥ I'm sorry I haven't responded much xX; I had a midterm last week and was basically completely out of contact all week due to stress, studying, my aunt being sick, and all kinds of other stuff. xx;

00 has a lot more focus on the characters, and a lot of character interaction. It has all the usual holes in that due to the genre -- it's still an action series at heart and it knows it -- but it's very good, and the character development is honestly amazing, especially in the first season (I'm more "take it or leave it" on the second season, though I give them props for introducing a character I loathed when he first showed up and loved by the end of the season). I seriously adore almost all of the characters (with the exception of like.. two good guys and most of the villains, of course, lol). Their good guys are worth cheering for and are almost like a little family, with lots of implied off-screen stuff as well, and their badguys are worth yelling at and throwing things at the screen, which is a good sign I think. XD

Oh yeah, that's Duo to a T. XD *giggle* Duo's awesome. Hell, my bff has only seen about ten episodes of Wing and Duo pops up in our conversations sometimes... no matter what Gundam series we're actually talking about. XD He invaaaades the braiiiin- that his seiyuu is Toshihiko Seki may have something to do with this. XD

I haaate that bit, lol. Relena was so annoying. xD ...they kind of are, really, except that Relena's the stalker and Heero's mostly like "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME. ....FINE OKAY FINE. WHATEVER. STAND NEAR ME. FINE." and gets attached eventually, but I think it's more like Stolkholm Syndrome. XD
